Dominic Iorfa Junior in U21 Premier League action for Wolves

Former Nigerian international and Lobi Stars surpremo, Dominic Iorfa, is
excited with the progress of his son, Dominic Iorfa Junior, who plays football
in England.

Dominic Iorfa Junior, plays in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League for
Wolverhampton Wanderers and made his debut for England’s Under-18s in a friendly
against Italy last week.

The match for England’s Under-18s under Noel Blake marked a new beginning for
the young central defender, who was in the Wolves Under-21 squad that recorded a
2-1 win over West Ham, before the friendly.

“I’m excited with his development at Wolves and England. I was in Belgium for
the match and he had a good game against the Italians,” the former Nigerian
international said to supersport.com.

When asked why the youngster plays in the central defence, the former QPR and
Galatasaray striker said: “It’s better for him so as to avoid any comparison
with me. As a striker, he will be under pressure to be like his father.

“However, he’s enjoying his game in the defence for Wolves and England.”

Iorfa revealed that the youngster has learnt a lot at the Molineux.

“With his consistent performance, I expect him to get a chance to play in the
first team of Wolves in the Championship one day,” Iorfa stated.

Supersport.com learnt that the youngster started his football development at
one of his father’s former clubs, Southend United, before heading for Wolves

Caf Confederations Cup campaigners, Lobi Stars, have signed Nigerian
International, Barnabas Imenger, after the expiration of his six-month contract
at Sweden’s second tier side, Trelleborgs FF.

The signing of the Nigerian International who left rivals, Kwara United for
Sweden in 2012, is a significant coup for Lobi supremo, Dominic Iorfa, who is
plotting a raid on the continent and domestic assignments.

Imenger, who earned his international debut against Angola and got a second
against Egypt, both in 2012, has since resumed training with the Makurdi based
side.

Lobi Stars will benefit from his skillful movement and excellent finishing.

supersport.com learnt that Imenger has been handed number 21 at the club.

“It’s good to be back in the country and I’m looking forward to a good time
at Lobi Stars.

“As a striker, my ambition is to score goals for the team and play well for
my teammates to score too. I’m okay with 21 because the other numbers are
unavailable,” Imenger said to supersport.com.

Imenger started his football lessons at Lobi Stars juniors before heading for
the Kwara Football Academy, where he was tutored by former Nigerian gaffer,
Clemens Westerhof.

The Kwara Football Academy eventually loaned him to Kwara United, where he
became a cult hero.

Imenger was outstanding at Kwara United and former coach of the team, Tunde
Sanni later attributed the team’s problem in front of goal to the exit of the
youngster.

Interestingly, Imenger reunites with his father, Barnabas, who is a backroom
staff at the Makurdi side managed by Iorfa, a former Nigerian International and
Seoul ’88 Olympic star
Lobi Stars duo of Tony Okpotu and Ezekiel Bassey arrived Lagos on Tuesday for Wednesday's unveiling of their club's jersey.

Both players will model the jersey produced by leading sportswear brand, OWU Sportswear.

Okpotu, a forward, was one of the outstanding players in the team last term.

On the other hand, Bassey is a left-full back, who is also comfortable in central defence.

The duo were in Nigeria's provisional squad for the Afcon in South Africa, but dropped before the team headed for Faro.

Super Eagles supremo urged the duo to maintain their high level of professionalism.

""It’s a shame that we can’t take all of them to Faro, but what they have done here shows that they are true professionals and I know when we return they will be part of the set up for the next round of qualifiers in the national team," Keshi told journalists.
Lobi Stars' homegrown talent, Tony Okpotu.

In a league where teams lack the capacity to develop homegrown players, Lobi
Stars under Dominic Iorfa's tutelage have shown that it is an achievable task.

Since the once talked about Under17 League Cup never took off, Nigeria
Premier League clubs have failed to understand the importance of homegrown
talents.

Proposed two years ago, the youth league to serve as a conveyor belt to
assist clubs develop youngsters who would grow through the ranks to become first
team players.

Lobi Stars FC

Executive Secretary of the NPL, Tunji Babalola, told supersport.com that the
recurrent crisis in the league had adversely affected the implementation of the
youth league.

"We're trying to resolve several issues at the same time,” Babalola said to
supersport.com.

Although the English Premier League accounts for a high percentage of foreign
players, clubs still see the need to develop up-and-coming players as a serious
subject.

This explains why the former reserve league has metamorphosed into the
Under21 League.

Former Premier League side, Middlesbrough, which now campaign in the nPower
Championship, is one club that have remained committed to the development of
homegrown talents.

Even the legendary Barcelona are dominated by players from the Catalan region
who come through its academy, La Masia.

Lobi Stars have their younger team, Lobi Stars Juniors in Nigeria’s amateur
cadre, The Nationwide League.

Like Lobi, Enyimba are the other NPL side with a team in the amateur ranks,
Enyimba Juniors.

Interestingly, the Lobi template is powered by club supremo, Iorfa,
who played football in England, Scotland, Turkey, China and Hong Kong.

His understanding of the concept has boosted the club’s roster.

“I ensure the team play grassroots teams in different parts of the state and
scout for new talents who can fit in,” Iorfa, who won the Best Manager Category
at the influential League Bloggers Awards, told supsersport.com.

Lobi
Stars’ Homegrown Talents

Once upon a time, Lobi battled for the top stars, but a change in the club
policy means the club operate on a shoe-string budget.

Despite their small budget, Lobi reached the Cup final and finished third on
the log.

The youngsters were clearly on the top of their game and almost crushed all
opposition.

Ironically, most of the big spenders were not as successful as the
Makurdi-based club.

During the Federation Cup final in Lagos, Lobi paraded five players from
their youth ranks in the first XI, while three were on the bench.

Iorfa’s template has produced new stars like Tony Okpotu, Moses Bunde, Luther
Iorhe and Moses Orkuma amongst others.

Bunde’s qualities have earned him a place in the Super Eagles, while Okpotu
and Orkuma are in John Obuh’s Under20 team.

This shows that to be successful, you don’t have to spend money but you have
a bunch of young and hungry players spiced with some experienced stars.

Two-time Caf Champions League winner, David Tyavkase clearly provided the
experience needed.

Iorhe told supersport.com that Tyavkase’s contribution to the success of the
club cannot be over-emphasized.

“Every young player in Lobi learnt something from Tyavkase. There is no way
you won’t excel with Tyavkase in the team,” Iorhe said to supersport.com.

Indeed, the way Iorfa managed the club has earned him many plaudits within
the football fraternity.
Lobi Stars got off their campaign in this year's Super Four Championship
edging their opponents, Enugu Rangers 1-0.

It was the matchday 1 encounter of the competition which was organised by the
NPL so as to keep the Country's representatives in the Caf competitions in good
shape.

Both Sides mesmerized themselves in the first 20th minute of an entertaining
game, and Rangers would have taken the lead when Madu Chibuzor struck the
crossbar from 20 yards after being wonderfully set up by Sanusi Sani.

Okorie Daniel then broke the deadlock in the 25th minute for Lobi Stars as a
shocking gaffe from Rangers' Umar Haliru left Rangers goalkeeper, Okafor Uche
helpless as Okorie scored from the left angle.

Rangers' best chance came in the 40th minute, but Lobi Stars' goalkeeper,
Lawrence John was at full-stretch as he denied Taro Seun from scoring.

Infact, Lobi Stars would remain indebted to their goalkeeper, Lawrence as he
again provided another world class safe before the break.

On resumption, Rangers came out smoking, and they would have leveled up in
the 50th minute when Sanusi Sani and Egbeta Michael combined to set up Efe
Yarhere, but the former Warri Wolves' forward's effort hit the bar.

Lobi Stars the became cautious, and their resilience was justified as the
game ended 1-0 in their favour.
Former Nigerian International and Lobi Stars Technical Adviser, Dominic
Iorfa, will join top coaches across the continent for a Caf coaching course in
the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The coaching course runs from Wednesday, January 9 through Friday, January
11, 2013.

supersport.com understands that the course is for coaches expected to lead
teams for continental assignments this year.

Also to attend the course with Iorfa is former Nigerian International,
Barnabas Imenger, who has returned to the technical crew of the Makurdi based
club.

Imenger wiil boost Iorfa’s backroom staff in the dugout.

“I’m Nigeria’s best coach. My training schedule is dynamic so this is a good
initiative,” Iorfa told supersport.com.

Without a coaching certificate, Iorfa rejuvenated Lobi Stars and groomed
several homegrown talents who pushed for the Nigerian double last term.

However, Lobi Stars eventually finished third on the NPL log and lost the Cup
to Heartland in an exciting final last year.

As a result, Iorfa will not be in the dugout when the Super Four begins in
Kano.
